Tartan Bear is Outside!

Comments are off

Tartan Bear has made such good progress in his few short days at ABR that the curators decided to let him out into Wild Enclosure #2! He had finished his deworming medicine. His appetite is excellent (he even eats the bear diet pellets) and his plumbing is working well. They have noted that he has good coordination and strength, as well, and he showed readiness to leave the Hartley House. Curators Tom and Bailey accomplished the move.

They would move him in the HRH400 carrier, which was placed against the door.
At first, Tartan hid in his den. Then he came out, but went back into the den.
Tom persuaded him to come out of the culvert den.
Tartan came out of the den and went into the carrier!
Curators Tom and Bailey moved the carrier with Tartan inside.
They weighed him. He weighs 25.8 pounds, meaning he had gained 3.4 pounds since he arrived. Good bear!
Into Acclimation Pen #2, where he showed that he really wanted to go outside.
The gate was opened remotely, and he wasted no time.
Out he came!
And off he ran.
Before Tartan came out, the curators had filled the pool and added a safety log. The enclosure is ready for him.
Tartan began to check out the enclosure.
He explored every part – each nook and cranny.
Tartan in the sunshine. He is a handsome young bear, and looks so much better than the skinny little yearling we saw a few days ago.

And so now we can say that the 2022 rescue season has begun in earnest for ABR. We are sure that little Tartan Bear will provide hours of enjoyment for us humans who are able to watch him via the webcams. Stick around to see the action unfold.
