Myrtle is Perplexed

Our newest rescue cub, Myrtle, is residing in the Hartley House while she recovers from her recent traumas. For the first couple of days, she slept a lot, and didn’t interact with her surroundings. Now she’s feeling better, and as she investigates she is very perplexed by the fact that things don’t behave in the way she expects them to.

She has tried to get the little bear in her room to play, wrestle, or fight back, but it won’t do that!

She has learned how to rake leaves and twigs together to make a bed, but this darn contraption is very different.

She knows that if she digs through the chips she should find tasty bugs, but all she finds is a hard floor! So finally, after she raked the shavings, moved her food bowls, and dragged her strange bed back to where it was before, she fell asleep! Have a good rest, Myrtle!

Out in Wild Enclosure #1, the four portly cubs, all the same age as Myrtle, forage and gain weight. We are sure that they outweigh her by several pounds.

Yearling Heather Bear, in Wild Enclosure #2, comes down to forage in her private enclosure.

Three of the “T” cubs in Wild Enclosure #3 are in this photo. The fourth is foraging, out of camera range.

In Wild Enclosure #4, the female cubs were behaving like bear cubs: sparring, foraging, and waiting to join in on the fight.

It’s just a typical day at ABR.
