Apollo

Cub Update

Comments are off

The three ABR cubs – Otto, Rollo and Apollo, are sharing a Wild Enclosure.  Apollo chose a tree for himself and the other two moved into the tree that Summitt preferred until his release in August.  Today’s photos show them descending the trees to forage on the ground.  The curators are pleased with this development.  In past years there have been cubs who avoided being on the ground when other cubs were foraging.  Like children, they formed exclusive “cliques” and did not interact.  Although these three cubs have not been observed interacting, the fact that they are on the ground at the same time is a good sign.

Apollo scurried into the undergrowth as the other two cubs descended.

Had Apollo Bear been frightened by Otto and Rollo, he would probably have scampered back up his tree.  The fact that he stayed on the ground, even though he went to a different area of the enclosure, was a good sign and bodes well for future interaction.  Stay tuned.
