Lucinda Bear, now sixteen months old, and Finnegan Bear, now five months old, share the habitat in Wild Enclosure #4 at Appalachian Bear Rescue. They share the space but keep their distance from each other. Finnegan sometimes seems to want to socialize, but Lucinda has no interest. This is normal for a yearling and a cub – in the wild they would seldom, if ever be in the same area.

Lucinda often stays hidden in the undergrowth.

Occasionally she makes an appearance, allowing the curators to see her.

She has become a healthy yearling.

Lucinda takes a drink from the Cubby Pool.

After the drink, she retreats back into the undergrowth.

Meanwhile, Finnegan forages for food.

Finnegan is always on the move. Here he is on the ground.

And here is Finnegan climbing a tree. He is a skilled tree climber!
In our next post we’ll visit Milo Bear, who is still residing comfortably in Wild Enclosure #3. We can’t help but wonder when Milo will decide to leave ABR for his home in the wild.
