Late last night, ABR had a call from KY Biologist Tristan Curry about two orphaned cubs of the year (COYs). Nothing is known about how they were orphaned or about what became of their mother bear. By the time he rescued the two little cubs, it was so late that he decided to care for them overnight and transfer them to ABR this morning.

Curators Haley and Katrina met Officer Curry early this morning and took the wee bears to the University of Tennessee College of Veterinary Medicine, where the cubs were examined. The exam was good – the cubs are healthy and of good weights (the female weighs 3.76 pounds and her brother weighs 4.05 pounds).

Haley and Katrina took the cubs back to the ABR Cub Nursery. They are taking formula from a bottle and even were lapping a bit from a bowl!

The new cubs are #394 Daisy Mae Bear and #395 Duke Bear.

We welcome these almost-2-month-old cubs to ABR, and hope they will thrive in or care!

Daisy Mae and Duke Bear! How precious!
