The three bears who are now in Acclimation Pen 4 until permitted to  go back into the enclosure, were together in Wild Enclosure 4 before the illness that claimed half of their numbers. However, now that they have been apart for about a month, the two sisters, Martha and Betsy, were a bit hesitant about having a BOY bear in their quarters. They stayed up in a corner of the platform.

Tamale, though, proved to be a real gentleman.

He even slept on the floor, to allow the girls their preferred sleeping area!

It doesn’t look too comfy, but it was very gallant of him!

Fortunately, the next day the three cubs were interacting quite a bit more.

Betsy Ross parked herself in the food wheel to eat and eat!

While confined. the cubs are taking advantage of the abundant food supply.

On another front – the cleanup of Hartley House has begun! All of the areas recently used to house sick cubs must be scrubbed and sanitized to be absolutely positive that all traces of infection are gone and the spaces are ready to once again shelter new arrivals, whenever they may appear.

Dana Dodd, Executive Director, begins the work by scrubbing walls in the Hartley House. This is just the beginning!

Watch this space to see the three cubs released into their Wild Enclosure when the vets give the OK, and to catch up on the latest news of all the cubs as they chubbify their way through hyperphagia!
