Night Falls

Now that we know the release dates have been pushed back, we can watch how the cubs behave. Of course, they didn’t know about the previously scheduled dates, so they are just going about their business, gaining weight and responding to the winter weather and their bodies reaction. After a long time when there were no pictures of little Nettles Bear, who always stayed in her tree, she came down and was in camera range as she foraged at night.

We knew she came down at night, but she never was visible.

She was foraging and getting a drink at the same time!

Nettles stays close to trees, so she can climb up quickly if needed.

She shows bravery, though, as she moves away from the tree to forage.

Deciding she had been brave enough, she climbed back up her tree.

Seeing the size of the Fight Club Girls in her enclosure, we don’t blame Nettles for her caution!

The four cubs decided to pull down the straw that had been added to the Acclimation Pen.

It became a group project.

Everybody out! The destruction is complete!

Wait for me!

The cubs in Enclosure #1 are using their culvert den. Nessie and others are cozy inside.

Nessie is ready to get up now.

Heather raked the straw in her Acclimation Pen.

She was curious and interested in the changes, but didn’t stay long.

It seems that some of our cubs are showing signs of hibernation-like behavior. We’ll see how this develops in the weeks they have left at ABR.
