Yesterday was moving day for the cubs in Wild Enclosure #2. The curators wanted to move them from Enclosure #2 to Enclosure #1. The two enclosures have a gate between them, so the plan was to open the gate and encourage them to relocate. A problem was encountered, however, when the winch that operates the gate was found to have a broken post. That had to be fixed, so Curator Tom and a Board Member went to work.

The work is never done at ABR!

A view of the two enclosures and the location of the gate.

Of course the cubs were curious about the activity, even though they could not see what was happening.

Bear cubs are curious and cautious when something is unfamiliar.

Waiting until they felt safe (after the humans left) they marched single file to the gate.

It took some time and back and forth moving, but eventually the cubs relocated themselves to Wild Enclosure #1. This enclosure is more accessible to the Hartley House, and that will be important when the time comes next month for them to be released.

The cubs spent the night squished together on their new platform, just as they had done on the old platform in Enclosure #2. They felt right at home!

Nugget was the last one to wake up.

She stretched out into the Downward Bear pose giving the Caboose curvature arrow the opportunity to check her out.

This morning, Curator Haley fed the cubs by throwing apples and peanuts into the enclosure.

Meanwhile, in Enclosure #3, Tinsel “disappeared” until she was spotted on a ground nest by the tree she favors.

There she is, thanks to the red arrow!

There is a special Caboose Scratcher there, that she takes advantage of.

Tinsel is staying on her home turf, at least for now.

Twinkle is staying on her home turf, also. We wonder when or if they will make contact.

All of her needs are met right there, near her tree.

Curator Haley grabbed a quick photo of Twinkle with a nice apple she found. She is looking better already!

These two cubs will be with us for a while longer. Stick around to watch them grow!
