The Acclimation Pens in Enclosures #1 and 4 are open, to allow the cubs to enter as they wish. But, since no food is distributed outside of the pens, they do enter often to eat. It’s very interesting to see which food items are chosen by the different groups of cubs.

Both apples and peanuts are available. In Enclosure #4, the choice is definitely in favor of peanuts.

Tamale ignores the apple on the log.

One of the sisters makes her way up to the platform.

She knocked the apples down, one at a time.

Then she came down, having eaten 0 apples!

Tamale sniffed at the one apple remaining, but wasn’t interested.

He thought it was more fun to wrestle one of the girls.

In Acclimation Pen #1 it’s a different story.

Every cub wants an apple or two – or more!

They munch and then return for more!

Yum yum yum!

The cubs in Enclosure #2 will stay until January, so their Acclimation Pen is still closed.

They are foraging as usual, and spending the night up trees or on the platform.

Heading down to forage,

Finally, little Twinkle is staying warm and dry in Hartley House.

She spends her time eating and sleeping, both of which she needs in order to grow. We aren’t sure whether or not she will be ready for release when the others are, but she surely is trying! We think she looks a bit larger, don’t you?
