A Sunny Day

Chilly but sunny, that’s what the day was like. The ten little bears busied themselves with various activities. A big surprise came when the curators checked the footage from Wild Enclosure #4 and saw Beignet Bear actually running on all four legs – with all of her feet hitting the ground! Although she still has a slight limp, there is much improvement. This encourages the curators to hope that she will heal during time in the den.

The two cubs have a number of den choices. Which will they choose?

After looking into a couple of culvert dens, Beignet was seen scampering away on all four legs. Only her caboose shows in this picture.
Her brother, Boudreaux, is also checking out the possibilities for a winter’s sleep.
Sniff sniff – Dandelion smells acorns in the air.
Jessamine Bear finds a snack in Enclosure #2.
Another cub in Enclosure #2 rests on the platform in the sun.

It seems the feeding frenzy of hyperphagia is lessening and the cubs are becoming a bit more lethargic. That’s what happens to bears at this time of year; metabolism slows gradually, and they no longer eat with such intensity as winter nears.
