Munching Cubs

As we have seen during the last few days, the ABR bear cubs are showing signs of hyperphagia, the annual feeding frenzy that causes bears of every age to eat more and more, as they prepare their bodies for their upcoming winter fast. Today we see that in each of the four enclosures the cubs are seriously concentrating on their eating.

Highland, in Wild Enclosure #1, takes a short break from eating to look around. Highland is always ready for a formal occasion, with his sleek black suit and white tie!

His brother, Piper, is concentrating on his peanuts. Piper has very small dots of white on his chest, but they aren’t as noticeable as Highland’s collar.

Their peanut-eating sister, Nessie, has a collar that is reminiscent of the late, legendary Supreme Court Justice RBG.

The fourth member of their blended family is Angus Bear. He is committed to eating whatever comes his way.

Angus does some leg stretches. He seems to be committed to fitness as well as to eating!

Here is the entire population of Wild Enclosure #1.

And here is the population of Wild Enclosure #3 – the “T” cubs. Taco is the chonky cub on the left. That boy has grown!

Finally, a peek into Wild Enclosure #4. One cub remains hidden (see arrow pointing behind the shrub). Guess one of the girls was feeling shy.

We’re glad that all twelve of these little bears are thriving and chubbifying so well. Heather Bear, the yearling in the Recovery Center, is also doing well and had a very healthy appetite today. We’ll try to get pictures of her for our next post.
