Getting Bigger

All of the bears at ABR are fulfilling their mission to grow and chubbify before winter. We remember how small Myrtle Bear looked when she arrived, and how much smaller she was than the other cubs when she went into Wild Enclosure #3, but just look at her now!

Myrtle has put on weight and is a very healthy cub!

You remember how sorry we felt for poor Myrtle as she tried to make friends with the other cubs, but now she’s a part of the gang, and seems to be good friends with Taco.

Another cub in their enclosure is Thistle. He likes to soak in the Drinking Tub.

The (female) cubs in Wild Enclosure #4 are rowdy. They play, forage, and fight into the night.

In the morning, they are right back, foraging in the same area of their enclosure, but taking a break from their Fight Club.

It’s been speculated that they are part beaver, because of the way they like to chew on wood like this vertical den.

Sorrel Bear has achieved a circular body image. Good Bear!

Here is Sage in a thoughtful pose.

Little Trouble is able to stand up to any of the other cubs.

Smiling Nessie Bear in Wild Enclosure #1. Isn’t she a beauty?

Nessie’s brother, Highland, appears older. It may be the light and the fact that he is wet and/or muddy.

There goes Heather the Yearling. She looks very good.

Nettles is eating very well. She is putting on weight as we watch her!

She is also catching a lot of zzzzzs! Good thing, as she needs plenty of rest.

Nettles ate some more and then fell asleep beside her food bowl! That’s OK, as she needs both food and rest to recover and thrive. The curators are watching closely, hoping to be able to release her into a Wild Enclosure soon. Watch this space!
