With three enclosures and four cubs in each of them, there is always something going on at ABR these days. Let’s take a look.
Wild Enclosure #4 is home to the Herb Sisters (Rosemary, Sage, and Sorrel) plus Little Trouble Bear. The four girls are enjoying their Cubby Pool and in this photo it seems they are thinking about getting in the water.
Uh-oh, one of the cubs (we don’t know who it is) is caught on camera, beginning to murdalize a sapling! In case we thought only the boys were the sapling attackers, this proves that theory wrong.
Little Trouble Bear might be innocent. She certainly appears to be, but one can never tell with bear cubs.
She curls up to take a nap. Isn’t this the picture of innocence?
In Wild Enclosure #3, Truffle investigated a vertical den.
A typically curious cub, Truffle wondered what it was and how it was put together (i.e., how it might come apart).
She decided to investigate further by climbing inside! Vertical dens replicate the type of den often chosen by pregnant females in the Southern Appalachians. Sometimes these dens are as much as 50-60 feet up in a tree! It’s possible that Truffle and her sister and brother were born in this kind of den.
Taco Bear was on alert. We don’t know why – but he was ready to climb the tree quickly if need be.
Over in Wild Enclosure #1, they were having a pool party – what fun! And a good activity for this weather!
It’s good to see that Angus and Highland have become good buddies.
We can see that all of the cubs are having fun in their enclosures. As they play and explore they are learning about being bears. Keep watching to see what happens next.
