A follower asked about Derby Bear, saying she had adopted him and wondered how he was doing. We can’t always post photos of certain bears – it depends on which cubs are in view when the curators are able to photograph them (they only go down near the enclosures at feeding time). We do have a link to a video taken recently that shows the cubs foraging in Wild Enclosure 1 and some of the cubs (including Derby) in Wild Enclosure 2. The cubs are quiet when they are foraging, to avoid attracting attention to themselves if they are in the wild, but you will hear crunching sounds – that’s the sound of the acorns being crunched by the hungry cubs! You will also see that these cubs have grown since they arrived at ABR – they are starting to look chubby and their fur is gradually becoming healthier. Click here to see the video.
