As you know, Thumper had stopped eating, so he hasn’t had his meds for a few days. That was a big cause for worry, so Dr.Cushing and his team of vets from UT paid a visit to ABR.
The vet team arrives at ABR.
Thumper had been confined to the Acclimation Pen, so he was easily accessible.
They loaded Thumper into the HRH 4000 Carrier, using a light immobilization drug. It was important not to over-immobilize him because of his breathing problems.
Off he went. Must have been a heavy load!
They loaded him into the truck for his trip to Hartley House.
Once there, the doctors removed him from the carrier. They worked fast. His breathing was worse because he hadn’t been taking his meds. They gave him a long-lasting antibiotic injection that should help him.
Dr. Swanepoel filled a dart with the same long-lasting antibiotic to deliver to Tamale, so both cubs are protected.
Bam! The dart delivers the antibiotic to Tamale.
This is the dart that delivered the meds to Tamale. Once it fell off, the vets isolated him in another room and retrieved the dart.
Thumper woke up and was curious.
Tamale makes contact, and the two cubs conversed quietly.
The gate was opened, but with all the activity the cubs just walked past each other.
Thumper actually ate! Hopefully, having another cub for company will make the difference!
Stay tuned to see what happens next. There’s never a dull moment at ABR!
