After posting our recent comments about the NABC den cam, we came across a very interesting article in TG Daily, an online publication, which tells of scientific research about bears during hibernation. Scientists from the Institute of Arctic Biology at the University of Fairbanks Alaska, noting the changes in metabolism and temperature of bears during hibernation, are trying to find ways to utilize the bears’ model in humans. If it were possible to induce similar changes in humans, they postulate that it would be a tremendous asset in space travel as well as having important medical implications for diseases such as osteoporosis, muscle atrophy, and other conditions.
