There is a lot of excitement about the upcoming Black Bear Expo, to be held at the Townsend Visitor Center in Townsend, TN on Saturday June 26th from 9:00 to 5:00. We have been asked to provide a schedule for the day’s events. We are getting calls; the Townsend VC is getting calls, and there has been a great deal of multi-media coverage.
Here is the schedule for the day. Please realize that times may differ slightly, due to unforseen circumstances.
9:00 – Hike signup for those who have pre-registered by calling 828-524-9904
9:30 – Hike to inactive bear den departs (Hikers will return about noon)
9:30—5:00 Tony Thomas, Appalachian musician, “pickin’ on the porch (follow his own schedule)
11:00 – 12:30 – First set by Pistol Creek Catch of the Day
12:00—12:30 – Lisa Stewart, ABR Curator’s cub talk
1:00—til ? – Storytelling by Dwight McCarter and Joe Kelley, retired Park Rangers
1:00- 2:30 – Second set by Pistol Creek Catch of the Day
3:30—4:30 – Possible third set by Pistol Creek Catch of the Day
Other activities and demonstrations, ongoing throughout the day, include: TWRA officers demonstrating bear workup procedure, professional photographer showing how to photograph bears and other wildlife safely, campsite set ups – right and wrong ways, educational games, display of bear items (skull, fur, scat, etc.), ABR membership signup table, woodcarver, chainsaw carved bears, book signings, and bear items for purchase.
BBQ, hot dogs and hamburgers, plus soft drinks will be available throughout the day.
