The report for today is good. Beginning with Lovey Bear and his recent surgery: he is sleeping and eating in the Recovery Center – just as we expect him (and want him) to do.
Lovey sleeps near his Not a Polar Bear friend.
Sometimes he sleeps on top of his stuffie friend. Soft and comfy!
Here we can see the shaved leg, where he was prepped for surgery.
Curator Tom made a “sandwich” for Lovey, similar to the Blue-beary Sandwich made for another cub in 2017. They want the injured yearling to eat, so make special treats for him. Lovey’s sandwich had yogurt and mealworms – tasty treats for a bear!
The siblings were up late, foraging in the dark.
Then they retired to their cozy culvert den.
Mistletoe started pacing outside of the Acclimation Pen, so the curators opened the gate, in case he wanted to enter.
Both yearlings went inside, but they didn’t stay for too long.
We don’t know what is going through their heads. It’s hard to tell. Perhaps they are signaling that it’s time for them to be released back into the wild. Stay tuned.
