Black bear cubs are born in January or February, while the sow is hibernating. Since it’s not possible to know the exact date, ABR has designated January 22 as the “official” birthday of each cub or yearling bear who comes to us for care. That means that today is the four-month birthday of our Louisiana cubs, Boudreaux and Beignet Bear, and is the fourteen-month birthday of yearlings Hartley and Sweetie Bear. To celebrate, we have new photos of the foursome.

Each of these bears has reached a new milestone, and we celebrate their “birthdays!”
