Four Little Bears

With the admittance of #285, Sweetie Bear, ABR Curators are busy caring for two underweight yearlings and two cubs-of-the-year. We are happy to report that all seems to be going well, and we have photos to prove it.

Starting with the youngest, Beignet and Boudreaux, the cubs are gaining weight an ounce or two at a time. The big news is that tiny Beignet has reached the 3-pound milestone! Remember, she was just 1.1 pounds when she arrived two and one-half weeks ago

Beignet Bear is a mighty 3-pounder!

Bear cubs grow rapidly, and the ABR curators are feeding them a bear milk replacement formula that is high in fat content, like the milk of a sow bear.

Boudreaux Bear has grown noticeably, also. It appears that he has about doubled his initial weight of 2.4 pounds.

Boudreaux Bear is always ready to eat!

Everyone is excited to see the fur beginning to grow on yearling Hartley Bear. He is showing the effects of good nutrition.

Hartley Bear will be able to go outside as soon as the weather is a little bit warmer.

Our newest arrival, Sweetie Bear, is on a very restricted diet, just like Hartley was at first. She consumes what the curators provide and then goes to sleep. She has had a rough start to life, but things are improving now.

It’s hard to believe that she is a yearling, but she will gain weight as she is able to handle more nutrition in the days to come.

It won’t be long before our little bears are outside in the Wild Enclosures, practicing their bear skills.
