The Florida Government recently bought 1,135 acres in the Northeast Florida county of Nassau. This is part of the Florida Forever initiative that will eventually cover 146,000 acres and span the gap between the Ocala National Forest and the Osceola National Forest. To date, 60,000 acres have been purchased. Buying the land will help secure habitat for the local residents: Bald Eagles, Red-Cockaded Woodpeckers, and the Florida Black Bear. Thank you Florida for being good stewards of our woodland friends.
