Eating and Eating Some More

Today was a rainy day at ABR. We usually find the cubs in the trees when it’s raining, but when they are in hyperphagia they have eating to do. Besides, the rain brings those tasty insects to the surface – the better to be eaten by little bears!

Thistle found (and gobbled) some bugs that came up in the rain.
All of the “T” cubs were happily chowing down on bugs.

No fighting needed here. There are enough insects for both cubs.

Taco takes a break from bug-munching.

The insects are a nice addition to their regular, curator-provided diet of fruits and peanuts (but no bear diet pellets when it’s wet like this).

The cubs go around the enclosure, checking for “good stuff.”

There was a brief moment of sunshine while they ate romaine lettuce.

Yearling Heather Bear found something yummy in a far corner of her enclosure. No matter where it is, the cubs will find it!

In Enclosure #1, the cubs decided they had eaten enough for awhile, and started to climb up to the treetops.

A traffic jam ensued. A vertical traffic jam! This type of traffic situation is not found in average circumstances.

It took a few minutes to get it all sorted out.

Eventually the cubs climbed up to their branches above. See ya later, cubbies! They will come back when they feel the need to eat again.
