We would love to know how much weight a cub gains in a day of eating at ABR. We have read that an adult bear can gain two pounds a day during hyperphagia but that statistic doesn’t apply to cubs. However, with the bounty of nutritious food that ABR cubs have to eat, we wouldn’t be surprised if some of them actually do put on almost that much. Of course their actual weights will be revealed on the day they are worked up for release, but for now, we can just make guesses as we see their ever-expanding, chonky bodies!
Heather, for example, who comes into her Acclimation Pen frequently to snack on the nuts, is certainly becoming chubbier each day.
Her well-rounded caboose shows its roundness as she sits on her favorite branch.
Into and out of the Acclimation Pen, the cubs in Enclosure #3 trek, to munch on the food that is there for them.
This reminds us of the ad with the caption, “Help! I’ve fallen and I can’t get up!” Although we are sure that Truffle was able to right himself.
With a nice, full tummy, Angus Bear sleeps on the platform.
Not far away is Highland Bear. He is a chonky boy, too!
Yikes! Piper may prove to be the chubbiest of all!
Two of the Fight Club girls – pretty hefty!
Rosemary is a chonky girl!
The four Fight Club girls make a formidable group.
We don’t blame little Nettles for keeping her distance by staying up in her tree!
The Christmas triplets in Hartley House are getting used to having as much food as they can eat. We’ll watch them as they chubbify.
It’s not hard to see that all of the cubs, and our yearling, are making great progress. And they still have some time to get even chubbier! Stay tuned.
