Busy Cubs and a Visitor Bear

Comments are off

Otto and Rollo, the two seven-month-old cubs in the Wild Enclosure, are busy exploring their domain.  They used to stay in relatively the same area, near the Cubby Pool, apparently feeling safe there.  Now, as they get bigger, they are doing more wandering through the half acre enclosure.  Sometimes the curators can’t find them in the undergrowth – if it weren’t for the trails of beaten down grass, they wouldn’t know where the cubs are.

If we follow the cubby path, we can see part of a cub.

Once the cub(s) are spotted, we can see they are foraging, as usual.

Otto and Rollo are busy foraging.

otto - rollo

Otto stands up. Something has spooked him.

Otto

As any good cub will do when spooked, Otto climbed a tree.

Rollo

Whatever it was that bothered Otto, Rollo stuck to his foraging.

Otto

Otto didn’t go all the way up the tree, and soon came back down to forage.

Apollo Bear is feeling better – he turned over his water bowl!  It has been replaced by a heavier one.

Apollo

Apollo seems to be making progress.

A visitor bear strolled through the ABR grounds.  Not surprising, since we are in the heart of bear country.

The visitor bear looked very healthy. He or she is doing well.

The three cubs in our care are doing well, and we’re glad to see that a wild bear like our visitor is also looking healthy.  The food in the wild has been good this year.
