Within a day after Oliver Bear (#286) died, another emaciated yearling was found, this one in Sullivan County. TWRA had received a report from a resident who had seen the little bear and felt it was in bad shape. Officer Seay responded and rescued the little female, transporting her to UT where she was placed in the ICU. She was very sick and very fragile.
Although she was not expected to live through the night, she did, and stayed in the ICU for three days. After that, though still very weak and sick, she was moved to ABR and housed in the Cub Nursery. She was placed on the special diet like Hartley and Sweetie, to avoid refeeding syndrome. We don’t know if she will recover, but our curators, with backup from the UT vets, will do all they can.
