Myrtle Bear is showing herself to be a formidable member of the Wild Enclosure #3 gang. She is not afraid to stick up for herself against these four much larger bear cubs.
We’ve seen the other cubs ignoring her or giving her the “cold nubbin” and have felt sorry for the newcomer, but we didn’t need to worry.
She doesn’t hesitate to make herself known.
In spite of the obvious size difference, Myrtle sticks up for herself.
It looks as though she is yelling, but in fact bears are very quiet and cubs learn early that noise is to be avoided when you live in the wild. It is mostly posturing and bluffing.
A nose-touch is a good sign – it’s how bears get to know each other.
But Myrtle doesn’t simply accept that and move on.
In fact, she tackles one of the much-larger cubs. She will show the others who is the new boss!
Stay tuned to see how this ongoing story evolves! For our part, we’re glad that Myrtle is sticking up for herself. We didn’t need to feel sorry for her, after all! Go, Myrtle!
