In our last post we reported on the release of four of our yearlings on April 11, 2016. Today we will share with you the release of three more healthy yearling bears.
Tedford Bear arrived at ABR in October.
This is how Tedford Bear looked in October 2015. He weighed 16 pounds.
In November, Tedford was released into a Wild Enclosure.
In December, he hung out in trees, despite the weather.
By March it was obvious that Tedford had gained weight!
When weighed for release, Tedford was 100 pounds!
His eyes were covered to prevent them from drying out.
Tedford has good-sized paws.
After workup, Tedford was ready to go back to the wild.
The next yearling to be prepared for release was Beaufort Bear.
Beaufort was checked out at the UTCVM in November. He weighed 15 pounds.
He hid in the log den in his Acclimation Pen.
Beaufort was released into the Wild Enclosure in December.
In two months he had grown steadily.
In February, Beaufort seemed to think he was a ferocious, wild bear.
April 11th – Beaufort is carried to the staging area to prepare for release.
Beaufort Bear weighed 76 pounds
He has a healthy mouth and healthy teeth.
He gets his lip tattoo and GPS collar. He’s ready to go back to the wild.
Cedar Bear came to ABR in January, suffering from a head injury that left his legs in a very weakened state. He weighed 20 pounds.

Cedar was housed in a pen in the Cub Garage to allow him to strengthen his back legs.
Curator Greg showed how the Acclimation Pen was modified to encourage climbing.
Cedar Bear climbed in the modified pen in February.
In February, Cedar was released into the Wild Enclosure.

There was no sign of the head injury. It had healed completely.
