This sow with her cub has been a visitor to the facility for the past week.  She may be hearing the other cubs and is curious or just looking for a hand out.   This female looks a little scruffy as she is molting and will soon grow outer guard hairs that will be part of her winter coat.  The cub looks healthy and is the same size as the cubs in our care.  This female is teaching her cub all it needs to know about being a bear.  She will take it with her into hibernation and then in May or June of next year it will be dispersed and on its own.  It will then be called a yearling as it will be one and a half years old.
