Big news today – the five cubs in Wild Enclosure #1 have been worked up for their release back into the wild, where they belong. Their recovery and rehabilitation at ABR is complete and they are on their way to their rightful homes!
Curator Cole settles Turnip Bear on the table in the Release Staging area. while Curator Bailey records measurements. NPS Wildlife officer Ranger Greg and another officer look on.
As you know, an important part of the process is the weighing of each bear, and we are happy to report that all of the cubs had good weights:
Turnip Bear: 119.5 pounds
Caramel Bear: 88.9 pounds
Puddin’ Bear: 102.5 pounds
Cricket Bear: 93.9 pounds
Sprout Bear: 96 pounds
Even Caramel, who weighed the least, weighed more than most of the cubs who have been in the wild since birth. These five cubs are off to a great start. The chances are that they will soon find denning spots and will snooze the winter away to wake up in spring, where they are meant to be. We wish them the best bear lives possible, and hope that they stay away from humans and our dwellings and food!
Release videos will follow – watch for them!
