Three ways to make a legacy gift to Appalachian Bear Rescue
1. Name us as a beneficiary in your retirement plan
Perhaps the easiest way to make a legacy gift is to name Appalachian Black Bear Rehabilitation and Release Center, Inc. (DBA Appalachian Bear Rescue) as a beneficiary of your Individual Retirement Account (IRA), other retirement account or life insurance policy.
If you have online access to your account, doing so may take only a few minutes. You may make ABR as the primary or contingent beneficiary and provide our address (PO Box 364, Townsend, Tennessee 37882) and federal tax id number (58-1919032).
2. Make a charitable bequest through a will
The following bequest language offers several choices for you and your attorney to consider:
Suggested Language for Charitable Bequest
“I hereby give, devise and bequeath to Appalachian Black Bear Rehabilitation and Release Center, Inc. (DBA Appalachian Bear Rescue), a non-profit charitable organization with offices in Blount County, Tennessee, federal tax ID #58-1919032
(the sum of $_____) or (____ percent of my estate) or (specific items of property)
OR
all (or indicate a specific dollar amount) of the rest, residue and remainder of my estate
…as an unrestricted gift to be used at the discretion of its Board of Directors who may determine how best to apply such gift towards the work of the Bear Rescue (or for specific purpose).”
3. Make a contingent bequest
A contingent bequest provides for the disposition of the estate if one or more of the named beneficiaries fails to survive the donor. The following is language for you and your attorney to consider:
Suggested Language for Contingent Bequest
“If any of the above-named beneficiaries should predecease me, I hereby bequeath his or her share to Appalachian Black Bear Rehabilitation and Release Center, Inc. (DBA Appalachian Bear Rescue), a non-profit charitable organization with offices in Blount County, Tennessee, federal tax ID #58-1919032, as an unrestricted gift to be used at the discretion of its board of directors who may determine how best to apply such gift towards the work of the Bear Rescue (or for specific purpose).”
You should consult with an attorney to make sure the provisions we have recommended will be observed and your directives will be carried out by the courts in your jurisdiction.
