The Utah Division of Wildlife Services recently proposed to increase the number of bear hunting permits in response to the growing number of bear-human contacts. Many times, the conflicts are caused by humans leaving trash or food around campsites where bears can access them. A better solution to the problem would be to educate the public on how to be “bear-aware.” Decreasing the ignorance in the common camper would decrease the number of bear-human conflicts by a lot.
