Our wee 2016 bear cub, Finnegan Bear, is gaining a little strength each day. Curator Janet weighed him again and he has gained more than half a pound, now weighing 3.6 pounds!
She was able to get some good photos of the little guy and we are glad to be able to share them with you.
Newborn bear cubs have little or no strength in their back legs. They use the front legs to move in an “army crawl” fashion. Finnegan props himself up on his stronger front legs. The fact that he gained more than half a pound in just five days at ABR indicates that he is doing well. He is eating the bear milk replacement formula and is eliminating normally. These are good signs.
