The SC cubs joined the TN cubs in their Wild Enclosure over the weekend. Much to the delight of our curators, they have observed that, as they had hoped, the TN threesome have been “teaching” wild behavior to the SC trio. As you know, the SC cubs were separated from their mother before she could teach them how to be wild bears. The TN cubs, though orphaned as well, did have more time to learn from their mothers. The curators had hoped that Oscar, Annie, and Boston Bear would show Bennie, Jerry, and Carrie Bear how to behave in the wild. The first lesson that has been taught is the “climb a tree” lesson. The first thing that little cubs learn is to climb a tree for safety. Bennie, Jerry, and Carrie were spending most of their time on the ground, foraging. Since Oscar, Annie, and Boston joined them, all 6 cubs have been spending a lot of time in the trees.
The two girls, Carrie and Annie Bear, were so well hidden in their respective trees that they missed the photo shoot. Maybe next time!
