A pair of sibling cubs from the Gatlinburg area were admitted to ABR on July 12th, after their intake exams at UTCVM. Prost Bear (#339) is male and weighs 23.2 pounds, while his sister (#340) Cheers Bear weighs 19.6 pounds. The vets found both of the cubs to be healthy except for a number of ticks and a few broken teeth. The ticks were removed and the teeth are not a concern, as they are baby teeth that will be replaced by their adult teeth. As you can tell, their names are following the 2021 naming pattern of libations. Prost and Cheers will spend a few days in the Red Roof Recovery Center while they take the usual deworming medicine. When they are ready to go outside, they will probably be released into Wild Enclosure 4.
These little cubs were reported to TWRA by a Gatlinburg homeowner who had seen them with their mother after they emerged from their winter den in the area. A few days ago, the homeowner saw the cubs without the mother, and called TWRA and ABR. When mama bear did not reappear, TWRA picked up the cubs.
