As you know if you have been following ABR, we have designated January 22 as the birthday of all cubs and yearlings who come to ABR for care. The date falls in the middle of the possible birth dates for bear cubs. So each month we celebrate birthdays, because each month is a milestone for the orphaned and/or injured bears who spend time at the facility.

Today, August 22, is the date when our 12 cubs turn 8-months old and our yearling turns 19 months old! Let’s celebrate!

Each birthday is special and deserves a celebration!

In Wild Enclosure #1:

Angus Bear is 8 months old!

Brothers Highland and Piper Bear are 8 months old!

Nessie, sister to Highland and Piper, is 8 months old!

In Wild Enclosure #3:

Thistle (left) and his sister Truffle are 8 months old!

Thyme, sister to Thistle and Truffle, is 8 months old!

Taco, our first cub of 2022, is 8 months old!

In Wild Enclosure #4 there are four female cubs:

Rosemary is one of the sister triplets. She is 8 months old!

Another triplet is Sage Bear – 8 months old today!

The last of the triplets is Sorrel Bear – 8 months old!

And the fourth cub in Wild Enclosure #4 is Little Trouble – 8 months old!

Finally, we have our yearling, Heather Bear – she is 19 months old and today she was released into Wild Enclosure #2, where she will continue to heal from her injuries and enjoy a new measure of freedom!

Happy Birthday, Heather – 19 months old! Out you go into Wild Enclosure #2!

She immediately found herself in deep grass and underbrush.

Then she climbed a tree! What a treat for her, after being confined for almost a month in the Recovery Center. Now she has trees to climb, a pool and drinking tub for water, platforms and dens – all for her to enjoy. This was a real celebration for our yearling!
