The cubs and yearling at ABR are doing their best to get ready for their upcoming hibernation by “pigging out” (or should we say “cubbing out”?) on various kinds of nuts: acorns, chestnuts, peanuts, as well as Mazuri bear diet pellets, and apples. All of these are provided by the curators, and then we mustn’t forget the nature-provided goodies in the enclosure, like bugs and larvae.
Take a look at these recent photos of the ever-chubbifying little bears.
Highland and Angus, in Wild Enclosure #1, check to see what might be found in the springy dinghy. It’s fun for them, too!
Angus Bear is growing into a handsome, portly bear.
Sage is munching on acorns that are helping to chubbify this cub.
Sage’s sister, Rosemary Bear, stands amid a pile of peanuts that are about to be eaten by her.
Little Trouble has really plumped up since being at ABR!
Chunky hindquarters on Angus Bear. He’s doing a good job of chubbifying!
Ever rounder Nessie Bear amid some of her finds – peanuts, acorns, and apples.
Can’t spend all their time eating, though. The cubs in Enclosure #3 had a case of the Zoomies and chased each other up, down, and around in their enclosure. No doubt this will lead to more food consumption to replace burned calories!
Check out Taco and his plump nubbin area and thigh!
Myrtle and her friend, Not Myrtle, are both sleeping. Myrtle is looking a bit plumper these days.
It was hard to find Heather, but she was finally located, foraging in the underbrush. She has been much less visible recently, choosing to forage in well-hidden areas. But she is definitely getting chubbified, too!
