All the cubs are doing well. They are eating as they should, sleeping as they should, and practicing some instinctive behaviors. Daphne Bear in Enclosure #1 practices the paw care that is so important for a bear, despite never having been taught or shown this.
Daphne is a pretty young bear! She is careful about her paws.
Paw care includes chewing and licking the soles of her paws to get rid of debris that may be stuck to them or wedged between the pads.
Did you know that bears shed their paw pads every year during their hibernation? We doubt that Daphne knows that either, but her instincts tell her to take care of them.
That done, she sits and looks very thoughtful.
Wild Enclosure #2 saw all the cubs sleeping together, as usual.
It was time to get up and get to foraging!
Something attracted their attention. Whatever it was, they all were on alert.
After deciding it wasn’t a cause for alarm, they went down to investigate.
Getting up in Wild Enclosure #3 was rather chaotic.
Fisticuffs and nose bumps were the rule.
Then the cubs scattered to find breakfast.
There were two cubs who had slept in trees, as there wasn’t room on the platform. They came down to eat, too.
Pretty Peeps is peeping out from behind the tree.
Today it was Shadow who was not pleased with the location of the tub.
He decided to move it (unfortunately, he was standing on it).
Success!
Shadow sat in the tub. the “dry bath” trend is big in the cub world.
What will the happen next as the cubs learn and grow?
