We have watched the three confined cubs who have been recovering from the bacterial infection that killed three of their enclosure-mates. The sisters, Martha and Betsy, along with Tamale have indicated repeatedly that they wanted to get back outside. Yesterday, the UT vets finally gave their approval! They had been waiting for the results of the last cultures which were taken at the last vet visit. The cultures are negative, so that was the news we were waiting for! Here is a short video that shows their exit from the Acclimation Pen and their first exploration of their “new” enclosure. Notable is the fact that they seemed to relish the soft, leaf-covered ground, after the extended time on hard, concrete flooring. Enjoy the video!
Now Turnip Bear is the only cub to still be confined, as he recovers from the broken metacarpals in his right front paw. We’re sure that his release into a Wild Enclosure will come soon! Watch this space!
