As you know, ABR is located in Townsend TN, just outside the Great Smoky Mountains National Park. Visitors to the park are always looking for bears, and are excited to see one in the wild. We thought you might enjoy a photo of a young park bear eating ash berries on Clingman’s Dome, the highest peak in the park. Ash berries are an important fall food, along with the necessary hard mast nut crops such as acorns and hickory nuts. We are told that the mast crop is much better this year than it was in 2011, so ABR will probably not receive another cub or yearling to rehab until next spring. (Colton Bear is still with us, of course, for a couple more weeks.)
