We had hoped that the rest of the bears, separated from each other, would recover from the deadly illness that took Flapjack. But that was not to be. Burrito Bear passed away overnight.,
As Ben posted on Facebook:
The curators and Executive Director, Dana Dodd, are speaking to the doctors at the University of Tennessee College of Veterinary Medicine (UTCVM) to decide what to do next. Tamale, Burrito’s brother, is very sick and the doctors are planning to come to ABR to examine him. The curators are taking Burrito’s body to UTCVM for necropsy. Whatever has infected our little bears is deadly and merciless. We hope to find out what it is so we can fight back.
We are very sad at his loss. So many people were rooting for all of the sick little bears, and nothing like this has ever happened in the 27-year history of ABR. We hope that no more cubs will succumb to this strange illness.
There’s not much more to say except to wish Burrito as well as Flapjack peace as they have crossed the Rainbow Bridge. Rest in peace, little bears.
At least his time at ABR was happier than it would have been in the wild.
