Phoenix was introduced to Scruffy and Rags. We reported that they had “met” previously, through the gate, but this time it was official, and the three cubs are now “roommates.”
Scruffy is the big black blob in the upper left. His ample caboose is what we see as he looks into Phoenix’s room.
The curators locked the brothers out of the room so that Phoenix could explore.
Scruffy came in and ignored Phoenix, who was eating, to eat another dish of food.
Rags wasn’t as bold, but did come in to sample the food.
Rags (lower left) paid no attention to Phoenix.
Finally, Rags approached Phoenix. This was as close as he got.
Scruffy returned, having eaten all the food in Phoenix’s room. Phoenix was traumatized and hid in the corner.
Scruffy tried to approach Phoenix, but was rewarded with a bluff charge.
IIn the Acclimation Pen, Rags and Scruffy retreated to the far end, and Phoenix staked his claim to the platform.
After a while, Phoenix fell asleep. As bear cub meetings go, it was quite successful.
