All of the cubs are doing well. The curators hope to have the three who are recovering from the bacterial infection examined this week by the UT vets. A good report will mean that these cubs can return outside. With that in mind, they have been working to get Wild Enclosure #4 ready. The pool and Cub Tub have been disinfected and sterilized. We know that the bacteria can’t live without a host, so there is no more lurking outside. Meanwhile, here are scenes of the cubs today.
The four cubs in Enclosure #2 were sitting together at the base of a tree.
Something had attracted their attention, that’s obvious, and they were ready to defend their territory. But after a few minutes, their interest shifted. Apparently it wasn’t a threat, after all.
Doodlebug strolled along, looking for – what?
Suddenly she attacked Juggles!
He attacked back, and Cubby Fight Club was in session!
Soon they were pummeling each other.
It looked like a truce was being called.
But no – there is no truce in Cubby Fight Club!
Take that – Pow! and that – Thwap!
The fisticuffs continued for a long time!
Over in Enclosure #1, the cubs visited the vents into Hartley House. In the past, cubs have used the vents to sniff and chuckle to cubs inside.
But this year, when we realized the infection had gone from cub to cub, the curators sealed the vents, so they couldn’t transmit any germs.
Tamale seems to be well, but it’s up to the vets to decide if he can go out.
Martha and Betsy sleep on their platform. They are anxious to get out, also!
Curators and volunteers gathered chestnuts for the cubs. We know they will love them!
Stay tuned to see what the vets say later this week!
