Time passes and the ABR cubs continue to thrive and chubbify!
Before we update on the status of the entire cub population, we’ll show how the newest arrival, Crockett Bear, was checked at UTVCM and came to our facility.
This was Crockett before he was rescued. He spent three days in the tree.
Crockett at UTCVM. He is the same age as out other cubs, but weighs only 11 pounds!
Ready to go to ABR after his exam.
A tiny little bear in Hartley House.
He was curious about the cubs next door, and slept next to the gate.
The curator slipped honey with his meds into the room.
Crockett stretched out to reach the honey, which he liked. It’s likely that he had never encountered a bowl before, and he was being extra-cautious.
The curator cleaned his room and raised the gate, after persuading Rags and Scruffy to leave the room next door.
When Crockett was inside, his room was cleaned (see red arrow).
He loves the bear milk replacement formula! This should help him get big.
Rags finally went out into The Acclimation Pen and didn’t want to go back.
Now the brothers spend most of their time outside.
Over in WE #1, the cubs enter the pen to eat.
They are curious about this pen.
Cubs in WE #2 get up for another day of chubbifying.
Traffic congestion at the exit.
In WE #3 the cubs continue to excavate. Curators think an oak tree that grows nearby has shed acorns that are weevil-filled. YUM!
Seems that all cubs pass The Floating Pear test! Good bears!
Cubs in WE #4 are getting used to entering their Acclimation Pen.
Puff and Casper check out the menu. Note that the gate is open, allowing them to enter and exit as they wish. It will only close when it is time to capture them for release back to the wild.
