We were going to title this ” All is calm,” but when it comes to bear cubs, “calm” is not an appropriate adjective, so we’ll say all is well, because it is.

Making the rounds today, we’ll start with Wild Enclosure #2.

Jackie P was up early, before daylight. He’s looking up the tree, where his friends are still not up yet.

The cubs are most active early and late, when it is not so hot.

These cubs have discovered The Underneath, a space that has been enjoyed by many past residents.

Two of the cubby-meerkats confer.

There are several entrances to The Underneath, which make it hard to count the cubs.

If only they would stay still to be counted!

One cub was swimming in the Cubby Pool in Enclosure #4. The others are off in the underbrush.

They stay near the tree line and then scoot into the shadows.

Homer tested the water – will he go in?

He got a good start, by dipping his nubbin in the water.

Sundae tried to show him how it’s done.

Sundae climbed a tree to watch, but Homer just stuck to the rim.

The cubs forage until it gets too hot; then they will disappear into the underbrush.

In Hartley House, Pickles loves the swingy ball, especially since it is smeared with honey and cubby sauce.

The curators try to keep them interested by placing food all over the climby thing for them to find.

Yum! A sweet swingy ball is a treat!

The curators put a water tub and a Culvert Den in the Acclimation Pen for Puff and SuBearu.

Puff on the left and SuBearu, on the right are good friends. We hope that SuBearu gets a good report from the UT vets this week, so they can go out into a Wild Enclosure! Watch this space!
