On March 9th, a pair of sibling cubs from Alabama came to ABR. How they were orphaned is unknown, but the cubs, a male and a female, are not quite two months old and weigh about 5 pounds each. A team from the UT College of Veterinary Medicine made a house call, coming to the ABR Cub Nursery to examine the cubs and found them to be healthy. The cubs are #329 and 330 for ABR, and in honor of their home state and its universities their names are Big Al and Aubie.
They will be fed bear milk replacement formula every four hours around the clock. Meanwhile, the Alabama Department of Conservation and Natural Resources (ADCNR) will search for possible surrogate mother(s) for the cubs.
There hadn’t been any bear news for a couple of weeks now. We don’t know how long these little ones will remain at ABR, but we’ll keep you posted. Stick around.
