The storm didn’t bother the bear cubs at all. After all, they are engineered to deal with whatever weather comes their way.
It wasn’t too surprising to see cubs out foraging in the rain.
The curators opened the doors to the Acclimation Pens so cubs could go in, in , but in Enclosure #1, there were no takers.
Look at the pool to see how hard it was raining, but the little bears didn’t mind.
Finally they had enough and up the trees they went to be safe! Bear cubs feel safest in trees, no matter what the weather.
By nightfall, the rain had almost stopped and it was a normal night, with cubs sleeping on their platform.

In Enclosure #4, cubs were curious about the open gate.
They entered, ate, and promptly left.

The combination of heavy rain and the weight of chonky cubs probably caused the collapse. It can’t be repaired until these cubs graduate.
All told, ABR came through the hurricane remarkably well. Our thoughts are with those who weren’t so lucky.
