Children in two Maryville, TN elementary schools recently “adopted” ABR cubs. Volunteers visited the kindergarten classes at Ft Craig Elementary and the first grade classes at Mary Blount Elementary. They presented a program, telling the children about how ABR works to rehabilitate (a big word for the kids to learn!) orphaned bear cubs. Then, the children were given the opportunity to “adopt” one of the cubs. Each class received a photo of a cub and an Adoption Certificate. The next two weeks were spent collecting acorns and earning money through chores at home. When the volunteers returned to the schools, it was incredible what the children had done. The two schools together collected well over 400 pounds of acorns and apples, and over $600! WOW! Good job, Ft Craig and Mary Blount! THANK YOU!!
