We thought you might enjoy revisiting some photos of the cubs we cared for last year. These images of one of our cubs who really enjoyed the “swimmin’ hole” on summer days a year ago, are typical of what we might see today if there were cubs being rehabilitated at ABR. While we would very much like to show you photos of new cubs, we are glad that it seems this year’s cubs in the park and Eastern TN are doing well in the care of their mothers. The food supply is much better this year, which means that the mama bears are able to find food for themselves and their cubs. Thus, our services are not needed at the moment. However, when the need arises, ABR stands ready and willing to help, and with all of the amazing improvements that our volunteers have made to the enclosures, cribs, and buildings, we will be able to provide even better cub care.
Our swimmin’ cub. Photo #1. Coming ’round the bend.
Photo #2. Tastes pretty good, too!
Photo #3. A great way to cool off on a hot summer day! By the way, bears in the wild do enjoy cooling off in water, be it rivers, lakes, or creeks. They enjoy swimming and splashing, and it is a good way for them to rid themselves of annoying insects.
This little swimmer was released just 4 months later, weighing a hefty 91 pounds!
