The two brothers in Hartley House require more curator attention than the other twenty-six in the outside enclosures.
Curator Jamie cleans Room #2 while the cubs are in Room #1.
In Room #1, the brothers eat nuts that are scattered for them after the room was cleaned. Instead of eating from bowls, they have to “forage.”
After washing the floor, Jamie places a tub of fresh cedar shavings on the floor.
He also adds fresh branches.
Finally, he scatters nuts and fruit (that the cubs don’t eat).
Scruffy is first to enter. He is larger, and more assertive, but by scattering the food, the curators give Rags a better chance to get his share.
Here comes Rags.
This seems to work. The cubs were stressed when they had to be separated, but now Rags is able to get his share of food without the need to separate them.
The curators will weigh the little bears soon. They are anxious to learn how much weight they have gained.
Out in Wild Enclosure #1, the cubs spent most of the day foraging and eating. They are working on their chubbifying!
Something spooked the cubs in Enclosure #2, and they dashed to the trees.
It wasn’t serious, so they relaxed.
In Wild Enclosure #3, the cubs drank from their Cubby Pool. This time, they didn’t approach The Forbidden Tree.
A squish of cubs in Enclosure #4.
At 8:45 AM, they went down to forage.
And in about 40 minutes, they were back to snooze.
We can see the cubs are preparing for winter hibernation, by their actions Eat – Drink – Sleep – Repeat.
