Today we share photos of the curators doing real grunge work! This is probably the least enjoyable part of the curators’ job, but it has to be done. The reason for it now is that after the vets examine the three remaining cubs from Enclosure #4, who have been on antibiotics for about a month, it is hoped that the vets will say that these cubbies can finally return outside! So in preparation, they have been thoroughly cleaning and sanitizing both Enclosures #3 and #4.
Curator Haley scrubs the Cubby Pool. What a mess!
Next, she mucks out the pool. Yuck!
Curator Cole adjusts the spigot that fills the pool with water.
Now, the water will come in at the bottom, hopefully stirring up the debris and making the pool easier to keep clean.
Look at the clean pool in Enclosure #3!
And the equally clean pool in Enclosure #4!
Next job: burning the soil to kill any larvae or parasite eggs that may be there.
Curator Haley burns the leaf litter under the platforms.
Then she burns the surface of the platform, itself.
Another resident of the enclosure, who was not harmed.
The two enclosures are ready for the cubs, as soon as they have the approval from the UT vets. Keep your fingers crossed!
